It is the vision and values of the Macon County Board of Elections and Registration that all elections and voter registration activities and services within Macon County are faithfully executed through efficient, equitable and effective policy choices, rules and procedures utilizing community input and allocated resources and funds.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Macon County Board of Elections and Registration is to enhance voter and electoral experiences of citizens by providing effective, efficient, safe, transparent, equitable elections, voter registration and absentee-balloting services through the use of performance management systems and processes. The Macon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration consists of five members, appointed by the Macon County Board of Commissioners with staggered four-year terms. The Board of Elections is responsible for oversight of the Macon County Elections Office. The Elections Office Staff has the responsibility for the execution of registration of voters, certifying of candidates for the ballot, storage, maintenance and setup of voting equipment, appointment and training of poll officers, and certification of all election results.

Macon County Elections Open Records Requests

In accordance with O.C.G.A. § 50-18-71 (b) the Georgia Open Records Act and related subtitles of Georgia law authorize a personal inspection of public records at a reasonable time and place unless prohibited by a court order or otherwise exempted by law. However, no public official or personnel is required to prepare reports, summaries, or compilations not in existence at the time of an Open Records Request. In many instances there is no charge for obtaining public records. However, in situations that require staff to spend more than 15 minutes in researching, retrieving, redacting (if necessary) and preparing files for pick up, there can be a fee associated with your request. Fees are based on the hourly rate of the lowest paid employee capable of performing the work, minus the first 15 minutes.

Voter Guidelines

In the state of Georgia, you do not have to register by political party to vote in regular primaries or general elections. You may register to vote at any time, but you must be registered by the close of registration prior to an election if you wish to vote on election day, i.e., the application must be postmarked by the voter registration deadline. If you are not registered to vote, register today. If you are registering for the first time in Georgia, and you register by mail, you are required to provide one of the following acceptable forms of identification by mailing a copy or providing a copy during the absentee voting period.
